The third goal, scored by Kevin De Bruyne, came from Chelsea’s own free-kick. Sterling, after being put through on goal following an opposition free-kick, hit the post and the rebound fell to De Bruyne who then made no mistake and sidefooted the ball home.
With the clock ticking the final few seconds, substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi pulled one back for Frank Lampard’s side.
Manchester City move to fifth place in Premier League standings while Chelsea take up eight place after the 3-1 result at Stamford Bridge.
