Gattuso publicly expressed his ‘disappointment’ despite his side’s win over Cagliari and also commented on Victor Osimhen’s recent mistake.

Gennaro Gattuso says Victor Osimhen will pay for his mistake after the player found himself on the wrong side of the media.

The Nigerian forward recently tested positive for coronavirus while out injured with a shoulder injury.

Further reports showed Osimhen might have been the cause of his own predicament after he was seen attending a party in Lagos while failing to observe the necessary Covid-19 safety requirements.

Several reports from the Italian media have claimed Napoli are furious with their summer signing and will deal with him appropriately.

Gattuso was sure to address the issue after his side’s 4-1 victory against Cagliari on Sunday afternoon. First, he gave his verdict on his side’s performances and he wasn’t exactly pleased.

“We can’t create 10 scoring opportunities and take so few of them,” he said to Sky Sport Italia.

“Considering all the forwards we are missing right now, we still got into the final third 20 times and lacked determination. That’s what angered me the most, as it’s an issue of mentality.”

When asked about the club’s stance on Osimhen, Gattuso added: “When I made a mistake, Marcello Lippi used to say he’d let me stew in my own juices for a while, to recognize what I’d done. That’s what Osimhen has to do now.”

“He has already apologized, he’s a lad who gives his all when working. He made a silly mistake, he knows that. I am a coach, I don’t decide fines, especially as I was the one who gave the all-clear for him to return to Nigeria and so both of us were left embarrassed by what happened.”

“He made a mistake and he will pay what he needs to pay.”
