Tottenham line up two replacements for potential Lloris exit

Tottenham Hotspur has targeted two English goalkeepers as replacements for Hugo Lloris in case he decides to leave the Premier League side.

French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been with the Spurs for eight years ever since making a move from Lyon. However, the 34-year-old may be considering moving back home soon. In fact, it was recently reported that Mauricio Pochettino will try to secure the highly-rated goalkeeper for his new Paris-Saint Germain side.

The news of a possible departure raised alarms in London. Lloris is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world and certainly would certainly not be easy to replace. Therefore, Jose Mourinho’s side has already begun the search for a substitute. Should the World Cup winner decide to leave, Spurs already have a contingency plan lined up.

According to The Sun, Tottenham have their eyes on two English goalkeepers who are already playing in the Premier League. West Brom’s Sam Johnstone has been looking great in goal and has reportedly caught Mourinho’s attention. Despite playing for a team in the relegation zone, the 27-year-old continues to impress with his performances.

Additionally, the Spurs are also looking into the signing of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old made some impressive saves at Sheffield United last season, securing him a spot at the Red Devils. However, Henderson has rarely been able to dethrone David De Gea and maybe hoping to get some more playtime in 2021.

Out of the two options, Sam Johnstone looks like the most probable choice. It seems unlikely that United will want to loan Henderson off to another Top-6 team. Furthermore, Mourinho’s club would have to make a big financial investment to secure the young goalkeeper. On the other hand, Johnstone’s market value is currently at €6.5 million. Therefore, the 27-year-old is the most attractive alternative should Lloris return to France.
