Mario Balotelli scored his first goal for Serie B side Monza in his first touch at the club.
Four minutes, one touch. That’s all it took for Mario Balotelli to score his first goal for Monza. In fact, the Italian striker couldn’t have had a better start to his season. The player’s debut for the Italian club came this Wednesday against Salernitana.
Mario Balotelli joined Berlusconi’s club on a free transfer three weeks ago. The 30-year-old signed a six months contract after parting ways with the relegated Brescia. Moreover, the player was reunited with former Milan teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng.
In order for the deal to go through, the Italy international had to agree to a heavy pay cut. Last year, Balotelli earned a €2.5 million yearly wage at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti. However, he will take home roughly €500 thousand this season, as agreed in his contract with AC Monza.
Nevertheless, Mario seems to be taking this opportunity very seriously. The player underwent a crash diet since arriving at the club and has already lost 5kg in 20 days.
“We hope his time at Monza will be a happy one, similar to at Milan in 2012-13,” Galliani told TeleLombardia, as quoted by Football Italia.
“He needs time because he hasn’t played in an official game since March, but he’s working, losing weight and reducing the percentage of fat in his body. We’re getting Mario in shape.”
“Watching him in training, you can tell he’s world-class and should’ve done more in his career. It’s a pity he threw so many years away.”
