Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with his side’s mentality against Wolves as they had to wait until stoppage time for the breakthrough.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted to see his side pick up all three points against a resolute Wolves side.
After a goalless stalemate in 90 minutes, a deflected strike from Marcus Rashford in the 93rd minute gave United a priceless win against Wolves at Old Trafford.
It saw the Red Devils continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League as they seek to maintain their charge on Liverpool. For the victory against Wolves, United were admittedly not at their best and Solskjaer credits the eventual win to their improved mentality.
“It’s one of the points we brought up early on in the season, in a meeting, that we didn’t win many points from the end of games last season.” he said via the club’s website.
“We have a tradition for doing that at this club. Obviously, we’d (normally) have many more supporters helping us to do that but that’s happened many times in that end [the Stretford End].”
“Now we’ve won quite a few points towards the end of games and that’s both a mental aspect but also a physical aspect.”
“It was one of those nights when, towards the end, you want fans to help you but we didn’t need that help today. We had a bit of luck with the deflection but you keep going and that is an aspect that this team has developed. The never-give-up attitude. We have done it so many times this season and it is starting to become a habit, which is good.”
As it stands, United are only two points off the top of the league but Solskjaer refuses to get carried away with talks of a title challenge.
“There’s no title race after 15 games.” he added.
“You can lose the chance of being in a race in the first 10 games, of course you can.”
“But play another 15, get to 30 and then maybe we can start talking about a title race, when you get to March or April, when we have at least played more than half a season.”
Solskjaer and United are back again in action against a high-flying Aston Villa side on New Year’s day.
