Frank Lampard thinks that his ex-Chelsea colleagues’ valuable experience aided Aston Villa to rise back in the league.
Frank Lampard believes that John Terry is the reason behind Aston Villa’s stimulated performance this new season. The ex-Chelsea teammates will meet in the Premier League clash on Monday. Just after a narrow escape from relegation in the previous season, Villa has emerged to battle for the English title.
With eight wins in 13 games, Dean Smith’s side sits seven points behind league leaders Liverpool. However, the Villans have two games in hand as an advantage. As for Lampard and Chelsea, they will have a reunion with Terry who has been under Smith since October 2018. Just for a reminder, the former Blues duo lifted three Premier League titles and the Champions League crown.
Invaluable knowledge.
Lampard told Chelsea’s official website: “I am sure John has an influence because he is, in my opinion, one of the greatest centre-backs to have played in the Premier League. And for England, and in the world for a long period of time. He has an absolute wealth of knowledge of the game so his input will be invaluable to Dean Smith and all the staff. Their team are working hard and you have seen a real big uplift in them. And I am sure there is a lot of work behind the scenes through John and all the staff there.”
“They obviously added to their squad in a very good way in the offseason. Villa has a good manager, good coaches and a good team with very good individual players who are playing well. They are in a really good time at the moment. And I am not completely surprised by it, and it will be a tough match.”
