The Uruguayan striker has made just one start in the Premier League under the Red Devils boss this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked Edinson Cavani for patience amid the striker’s struggles for regular Premier League starts at Manchester United.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star, who arrived in October on a free transfer, made his seventh appearance off the bench in United’s 2-2 Boxing Day draw with Leicester City and assisted Bruno Fernandes for the club’s second goal.

Cavani’s superb cameo came just three days after he started and broke the deadlock in the Red Devils’ 2-0 EFL Cup quarter-final win over Everton.

Solskjaer’s decision to continue leaving him out of the line-up, therefore, has raised concerns. But considering Cavani is 33 years of age, still adapting to English football, and the club’s congested fixture list, the United boss has asked for patience.

“He has been out injured for a little while and played a full, physically demanding game against Everton in midweek,” said Solskjaer as quoted on Yahoo.

“We decided to have him on the bench and he made an impact straight away, with a great pass for the goal.

“It will have to be that way for a while as he gets used to English football and the demands of this season, but he made a great impact here and he has made a big impact in the squad.”

Cavani will hope to make his second start of the Premier League season at home to Wolves on Tuesday night.
