The Argentine superstar recalls the events of last summer that caused massive unrest among the fan base and provides clarity over his future.

Lionel Messi is excited about the future at FC Barcelona and is in for ‘fighting seriously’ in what are challenging times for the club.

Barca fans were shaken to the core upon hearing the news in August that Messi had handed in an officialĀ transfer request.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner dropped the bombshell after the team’s exit from the Champions League last season following an 8-2 humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich.

His exit was blocked by the club’s officials and he himself decided to give in when it became apparent that the only way out would be by dragging his boyhood club to the court.

Despite that, the transfer rumors did not stop. The 33-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City while interest has been reported from Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

As it stands, he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. However, amid rumors that his almost two-decade-long association with Barcelona is approaching an end, Messi has provided some hope.

“The truth is that today I’m fine. It’s true that I had a very bad time in the summer,” Messi revealed to journalist Jordi Evole in an exclusive interview with La Sexta.

“It came from before. What happened before the summer, because of how the season ended, the burofax, and all that … Then I dragged it on a bit at the beginning of the season.

“But today I’m fine and I feel like fighting seriously for everything that lies ahead, [I’m] excited.

“I know that the club is going through a difficult time, at club level and everything that surrounds Barcelona, but I’m looking forward to it.”
