Today we celebrate the 33rd birthday of Real Madrid star Karim Benzema by taking a brief look back on his career story.
Karim Mostafa Benzema is one of the best strikers in European football and rated by Zinedine Zidane as the greatest in French football history.
The 33-year-old began his career at local side Bron Terraillon before moving to the Lyon youth academy in 1997. He made his senior debut in January 2005 and featured sporadically across the next few seasons.
2007/08 campaign was Benzema’s breakthrough campaign. It was the moment he truly announced himself to Europe, with an impressive 31 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions – including four in only seven Champions League games.
Not only did the striker’s exploits help Lyon win a seven consecutive Ligue 1 title, but they won him the league’s Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards.
A €35m transfer to Real Madrid followed in the summer of 2009 for Benzema, who has since won every competition imaginable in Spain.
He has shone alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo to help Los Blancos embark on a historic era that won them 18 major honors, including four Champions League, four FIFA Club World Cups, and three La Liga titles.
Benzema is also the club’s fourth-highest goalscorer in history on 259 goals in 529 appearances and earned 81 caps for the French national team until 2015.
Everyone here on Ace Football wishes Karim a happy 33rd birthday and all the best for the upcoming year.
