Mourinho’s former assistant took aim at Guardiola and Manchester City for their conduct in the 2017/18 title battle.
Jose Mourinho’s former assistant, Ricardo Formosinho, believes Manchester United would’ve won the Premier League in 2017/18 had their rivals not breached Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
Manchester City won a third league title, and a first under Pep Guardiola, that season by finishing 19 points above runners-up United in first-place.
The Red Devils fired Mourinho in the following season, but haven’t fared any better since. Their best finish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was third in the 2019/20 campaign.

But now Formosinho has launched a bold claim against City by stating Mourinho would’ve delivered at Old Trafford had City obeyed the FFP rules.
“We weren’t champions, it’s true,” he told Record.
“But we won the Europa League, the League Cup, the Super Cup and, in a fight with a Manchester City, who did not fulfil, as proved later, the Financial Fair Play, we were runners-up at a time when, having sporting truth, we would’ve been champions.”
City spent an incredible €317.5m in that season alone on Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Danilo, Douglas Luiz, Jack Harrison, Olarenwaju Kayode, and Luka Ilic.
Two years on from his United dismissal, however, Mourinho has steered Tottenham to the top of the Premier League table.
“People may ask why he’s the best,” Formosinho said on Mourinho.
“I answer that because he thinks faster and comes up with solutions faster.
“When talking about the growth of others at the tactical level, he goes far ahead strategically. He’s different for the better. I’d even say much better.”
