The Blues boss has been tipped to become England manager one day, and he’s now addressed his contract situation at the club.

Frank Lampard would ‘really love’ to continue at Chelsea beyond his current contract, which expires on June 2022.

The 42-year-old took charge of the Blues last season, despite having only one campaign as a coach under his belt with Derby in the Championship, and led the club to a top-four Premier League finish at the first attempt.

Lampard has since welcomed several high-profile recruits and is reaping the rewards this term. Chelsea are in the thick of the Premier League title battle and have progressed to the Champions League knockout stages as Group E winners.

The Blues’ recent success under Lampard has sparked talk of him replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager.

But the Chelsea icon is only just getting started at Stamford Bridge and has no desire to walk out anytime soon.

“It seems to have flown by,” said Lampard as quoted on the club’s website.

“I felt when I came to the club that there were a lot of circumstances at the beginning that were going to make last year transitional, and maybe slightly difficult, and I felt like I took the job in a different position from most recent Chelsea managers.

“I think people sympathized with that, and I thought it was a success.

“Now I feel like I would really love to be part of the long-term plan here.

“The signings we made in the summer, other than probably Thiago Silva, are signings for now and for the future, players that are going to progress and mature and of course I would love to be part of that.

“Of course that is the club’s decision and the owner’s decision first and foremost, and I have to get on with the short-term, which starts with Leeds this weekend.

“But I don’t think anyone would expect me to say anything else. I am a lucky man to be managing the club that I love and is my life, so of course, I want to make a success of it and be here as long as I can.”

Lampard and Chelsea will face Leeds United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night at 21:00 (CET) for their next Premier League match.
