It was 12 years ago to date when Cristiano Ronaldo started writing his incredible history with the first of five Ballon d’Or trophies in his career.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player who currently has five Ballon d’Or trophies in his personal cabinet. Only Lionel Messi has one more than he does but the other players with more have only three of them. Twelve years ago to this day, the Portuguese forward delivered one of the most impressive seasons of his professional career while he was still at Manchester United.
During the 2007-08 campaign, Cristiano won the Premier League and he scored a goal in the Champions League final at Chelsea. But the most impressive part of this year was the level of performance he showed the world. It had been a long time since we witnessed such a dominant player as Cristiano Ronaldo that season.
There are many great nights to remember from his most prolific year as a Red Devil. Throughout the whole year, Ronaldo scored an impressive 42 goals in all competitions. This helped him complete a year that was pretty similar to one that George Best had at Manchester United back in 1968.
Ronaldo’s search for his sixth Ballon d’Or.
Regardless of how many individual accolades he’s won over the years, Cristiano Ronaldo still has that fire in his belly to compete for everything. Given that Messi has one more Ballon d’Or than he does, it’s clear that their personal rivalry will keep motivating Ronaldo. We all know he will try to surpass all of Messi’s numbers until he is 40-years-old.
Cristiano is determined to finish his career at the top of every important stat in football history. He just won the Golden Foot to increase his accolades and he is already in search of more. The way he can reach Messi is by winning more UEFA Champions League titles or a World Cup.
But we aren’t sure if Juventus is the ideal place for him to get the success he’s been looking for since he left Real Madrid. Portugal can certainly give him another title due to the new generation of players within the squad. Can Ronaldo win another Ballon d’Or before he retires?
