Injuries continue to plague the French midfielder as this time an ankle problem rules him out of the match against Southampton.

Paul Pogba did not train with the rest of the Manchester United team on Friday and will almost certainly miss Saturday’s trip to Southampton in the Premier League.

The Frenchman returned from the international break carrying an injury and missed United’s subsequent games against West Brom and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Pogba has been in and out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up this season, having started in just five of his side’s 14 matches across all competitions.

“Scott [McTominay] and Paul didn’t train this morning, weren’t on the grass so look very unlikely for the weekend,” Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

He added, providing injury updates on his other stars: “Marcus [Rashford], Victor [Lindelof], Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] came through the session today so not 100%, Luke [Shaw] has just started his rehab out on the grass but is not back with the team yet.

“Jesse [Lingard] is back from his isolation period and has had a couple of days training and Phil Jones is out until after Christmas sometime.”

Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek, two players who joined the Norwegian’s squad over the summer, meanwhile, are in contention to make their first Premier League starts for the Red Devils.

“They’ll both be available to play and I’m sure if they do they’ll be capable again,” Solskjaer said.
