Drama and excitement are expected when two European powerhouses collide with both looking to take control of Europa League Group H.
All eyes will be on the pitch of Stade Pierre-Mauroy with AC Milan set to take on Lille OSC for the second leg of the Europa League group stage tie.
The French sit atop Group H just ahead of the Italians and, with only a point separates the two sides, the standings could reverse depending on Tuesday night’s result.
With a heavy 3-0 loss suffered in the reverse tie, the visitors will be aching for revenge. However, the job will be easier said than done with the Ligue 1 outfit currently one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe.
Lille vs Milan Form:
The home side warmed up for the crunch upcoming clash with a resounding 4-0 domestic win. It marked yet another inspiring performance for the team who have lost just once in all competitions in 2020/21.
Having overseen a 3-1 win over Napoli, the visitors will also enter the game oozing confidence. They still maintain an unbeaten record in Serie A after eight games and the reverse fixture marked their only defeat of the entire season so far.
Christophe Galtier’s men should have one foot firmly in the knockout stages with a win but Stefano Pioli’s team should also feel confident about advancing regardless of Tuesday’s result.
Lille vs Milan Head-to-head:
History favors the Ligue 1 side as they are yet to be on the wrong end of the scoreline in each of the three previous encounters against the Italians.
Prior to the most recent match at San Siro, the two sides met in the 2006/07 Champions League group stage with the Italians drawing in the away leg and losing at home.
Lille vs Milan Team News:
A muscle problem will keep Renato Sanches out of the match while Zeki Celik will also sit out due to a sprained ankle.
The return of Reinildo, Jose Fonte, and Burak Yilmaz, all of whom were suspended for the Lorient game, meanwhile, will be a boost for the hosts.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a thigh injury over the weekend and will miss the action on Tuesday. His absence will most certainly be a huge source of headache for Pioli with the veteran striker being the primary supplier of goals for his side.
Rafael Leao, who picked up a similar injury on international duty with Portugal, is also ruled out.
Predicted line-ups:
Lille (4-4-2): Maignan; Pied, Fonte, Botman, Bradaric; Ikone, Andre, Soumare, Bamba; David, Yazici
Milan (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Dalot, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Kessie, Tonali; Castillejo, Diaz, Hauge; Rebic
