Ace Football previews the UEFA Nations League match between Poland and the Netherlands, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.

Only victory will be good enough as Poland and the Netherlands lock horns on Wednesday night for their final Nations League match.

Both sides head into the encounter with a chance of qualifying for the finals. Part of it will hinge on the outcome of Italy’s trip to Bosnia. The Azzurri lead Group A1 on nine points and a win for them will seal Poland and the Netherlands’ fate regardless of whatever goes down in their own match.

The only thing either team can do, therefore, is to pursue maximum points and hope Bosnia-Herzegovina can spring a surprise on Italy or else settle for second-best.

Poland Form & Stats

Jerzy Brzeczek’s side lost top spot in Group A1 last Sunday upon losing 2-0 to Italy. Jorginho’s first-half penalty and a late Domenico Berardi goal condemned the 10-man Poles to defeat and left their Nations League fate hanging by a thread.

The loss in Reggio Emilia ended a run of three consecutive clean sheets and a five-game unbeaten steak. A response, therefore, is necessary for Poland on Wednesday. Like their opponents, anything less than three points is simply not enough.

A report from Polish outlet WP SportoweFakty, meanwhile, claimed Robert Lewandowski suffered a knock against Italy. Although Brzeczek revealed the striker has returned to training in his pre-match conference and could still be available.

The head coach was also put on the spot regarding Lewandowski’s post-match comments in the Italy defeat. After an awkward and long silence, the frustrated skipper suggested ineffective training sessions played a part in the loss.

Although Brzeczek claims to have cleared the air with Lewandowski and plans to reinforce his attack against the Netherlands. He also confirmed Lukasz Fabianski will start in goal.

Key Team Stats
  • Won four of their last six games in all competitions (D1 L1).
  • Unbeaten in their last nine home games in all competitions (W7 D2).
  • Lost their last four games against the Netherlands in all competitions.

Netherlands Form & Stats

Frank de Boer grabbed his first win as Netherlands manager by overcoming Bosnia 3-1 last Sunday. The result lifted some pressure off his shoulders and kept the team’s hopes of qualifying for the Nations League finals alive.

Considering the players at his disposal and a general upturn in performances, De Boer should be optimistic. He remains unbeaten after four games and relished his side’s strong start against Bosnia. He’ll hope for more of the same on Wednesday.

Losing Ryan Babel to a positive COVID-19 test, however, is an unfortunate setback, while key defenders Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake both remain sidelined with injuries.

De Boer has also announced plans to bring in some fresh energy into his line-up by making changes. Donny van de Beek being recalled as a starter is his most likely call. Although he may be tempted to give Calvin Stengs or Donyell Malen a chance upfront.

Key Team Stats
  • Drawn three of their last four games in all competitions.
  • Unbeaten in their last six away games in all competitions.
  • BTTS in their last three games in all competitions.
