The Parisians have long desired continental glory, and a former player believes N’Golo Kante can take their squad to the next level.
Paris Saint-Germain made it up to the finals of the Champions League last season but their historical run ended with a narrow defeat to Bayern Munich.
The French giants are a force to reckon with domestically, having won seven of the last eight Ligue 1 titles, but European success keeps eluding them.
Huge investments have been made over the years in squad recruitment yet PSG have been unable to compete with the likes of Bayern, Real Madrid, and Liverpool at the highest level.
Nevertheless, those at Parc des Princes are never shy of spending and are reportedly considering a possible move for Lionel Messi.
Messi, having won the Champions League four times in his career, would vastly make their case stronger for winning club football’s most prestigious prize.
A former PSG midfielder, however, has argued that the club should drop their interest in the FC Barcelona man and instead prioritize bringing in a different type of player.
“I would like to say that if I were a leader at PSG, I would break the bank to sign N’Golo Kante,” Eric Rabesandratana told radio station France Bleu.
“He was still huge yesterday (in France’s recent 1-0 Nations League victory over Portugal on Saturday). Kante is the player who would allow PSG to win the Champions League. We do not need Messi or anyone else.”
