It is time to take a look at the EURO 2021 Qualification fixture between Georgia and North Macedonia. We have the Player Ratings.
It was an important day for both the teams as neither Georgia nor North Macedonia has come close to qualifying for a major competition before. With this thought in mind, it was a requirement for both the nations to grab the essential three points at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena. North Macedonia successfully edged past the hosts to go through to the next stage after beating Georgia by 1-0.
The tussle evidently turned out to be one of the biggest in the history of both the young footballing countries. The match, however, could not be played in the presence of fans due to the on-going pandemic restrictions. Though it did not stop the visitors to make a difference as they brushed off past Georgia.
The captain to the rescue.
The 37-year-old North Macedonia captain Goran Pandev netted the decisive goal to secure a spot in next year’s tournament. The Genoa star neatly finished off a team effort from his side in the early minutes of the second half. With this goal, Pandev now has 36 goals to his name for North Macedonia.
What does this mean for North Macedonia?
After beating Georgia, the Yugoslav republic will now play against Austria and Ukraine in Group C before an encounter with Netherlands. North Macedonia will be the biggest visiting team to the EURO 2021 following the footsteps of newcomers, Finland.
