Former Gunners star Ian Wright provides the main reason behind Arsenal striker’s decreasing goalscoring rate at Emirates.

Ian Wright explained the primary reason behind Alexandre Lacazette’s declining form recently. And he insisted that the Arsenal striker should be focusing on his instincts rather than “thinking about the consequences of missing”. Lacazette has managed to rack 51 goals in 135 appearances for the Gunners since his arrival to Emirates. Arsenal purchased the France international for an amount of £47 million in the summer of 2017.

In this new Premier League spell, Lacazette only netted three goals for the Gunners. However, he has not been able to put the ball in the back of the net since the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on September 28. Also, the 29-year-old’s latest miss during an encounter with Aston Villa proved costly for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s men are struggling to find the right balance to lift their heads up in the new campaign.

Lacazette could not tuck in a Kiernan Tierney cross from point-blank range when Arsenal trailed by one goal in the first half. The hosts, therefore, went on to see themselves beaten by the Lions and now stand 11th on the league table. And Wright believes that the Frenchman is facing rational issues than technical problems.

“I was talking about Mikel and how offensive he wants to be, and it’s literally impossible in this team,” the Gunners legend said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

“I saw some stats about Lacazette’s average position. For a focal point, he’s not near it.

“With the chance, he had, for me, even with no one in the ground, you could see he’s going through that spell as a forward where he’s thinking about his next chance.

“He’s actually thinking about it. I’ve seen him do a couple of headers now where you can tell he’s thinking about it. He’s thinking about it.

“Where that ball came in, you don’t need to think about it, you just need to get it on target. Just control it.

“I believe that even with no fans in there, he’s thinking about his next chance.

“He’s thinking about the consequences of missing. He’s thinking about the fact Arteta is saying: ‘We’re not taking our chances’.

“You need to get into the positions where you will score goals and then do what you’ve done for years.”
