The Catalans giants find themselves in an undesirable domestic position, but their coach argues that it is still very early in the season.
FC Barcelona are without a win in their last four matches in La Liga and occupy a lowly 12th position in the league table.
Ronald Koeman’s era at Camp Nou started on a bright note with resounding 4-0 and 3-0 wins against Villarreal and Celta Vigo respectively in the opening two games of the campaign.
But Barca were unable to maintain the fine form thereafter, drawing against Sevilla and Alaves and losing out to Getafe and Real Madrid.
The Blaugrana now find themselves in an awkward situation as they already lag much behind in the title race – nine points behind table-toppers Real Sociedad and eight behind arch-rivals and defending champions, albeit playing fewer matches than both.
Much criticism has been aimed at them as a result, but Ronaldo Koeman feels it is still too early in the season for people to start pointing fingers at him.
“Teams like Barca have to be at the top, if you are not there there are criticisms, but we must not obsess over it,” the Dutchman said in Friday’s pre-match press conference against Real Betis.
“The season is very long and you have to work game by game. It is necessary to win, but it does not guarantee tranquility. In this club many things happen, we must be prepared for everything.”
