Zinedine Zidane’s selection issues at the back become a much greater challenge as another defender is forced out of the team.
Real Madrid have announced that defender Eder Militao has returned positive on a coronavirus test.
A COVID-19 screening test for the entire squad, first-team coaching staff, and other employees was carried out on Sunday. Everyone returned a negative test, with the exception of the Brazilian center-back.
The 22-year old will now observe a period of mandatory self-isolation and will remain unavailable for Los Blancos’ next few games until he recovers from his illness.
It remains unknown whether he is asymptomatic or experiencing any symptoms at this early stage.
A statement on the report released on the club’s website read: “Real Madrid C. F. would like to inform that our player, Eder Militao, has tested positive in the COVID-19 tests carried out yesterday, Sunday morning.
“All the other players and the technical staff from the first team, as well as all the employees of the club who work directly with them, tested negative in that same test.”
Militao will now miss the Champions League group stage matchday 3 clash against Inter Milan.
With Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola, and Nacho Fernandez also on the sidelines, Zinedine Zidane will have a tough time choosing his backline for Tuesday’s clash.
