Arsenal emerged victorious at Old Trafford after 14 long years, and Mikel Arteta insists playing with ‘courage’ and ‘big personality’ helped.

It was a closely contested battle between Manchester United and Arsenal on Sunday night, but it was the latter who prevailed.

The score remained tied till late in the second half and it was not until a penalty kick was awarded that the deadline broke.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the difference-maker as he converted from the spot, sending David de Gea the wrong way, to seal a narrow 1-0 win and in turn all three points for his side.

It marked the first time in 5,159 days that the Gunners got the better of the Red Devils in a Premier League encounter.

“I’m delighted because we played with a lot of courage and big personality,” Mikel Arteta rejoiced post-match, speaking to BBC.

“They played a really tricky formation with four midfielders and two that constantly strain your back four. We could have scored twice in the first half and when we scored the goal we had to manage those moments.

“Individually you have to win the fights and step up to the occasion and the performance of every player today was top drawer.”

Arsenal, after registering their fourth win of the league season, move to the ninth position in the standings – just one point away from a top-four spot.
