Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola commented on his return to his old club Barcelona where it all started.
Most of the football fans around the globe want this to happen, especially the Barcelona fans. Watching Pep Guardiola reign Leo Messi’s side is indeed a privilege. However, the Manchester City boss ruled out any potential move to Camp Nou in his future. He indicated that his “period as Barcelona manager is over”.
Moreover, Guardiola’s current deal with City will terminate in over six months. Therefore, we are going to see numerous predictions regarding his future options. The Spaniard wants to stay at Etihad Stadium for a longer duration. But, he does not want a free ride as he mentioned that he should earn his spot by providing success in the new season.
Furthermore, speculations say that Guardiola might rejoin his old club in Catalunya next summer. And with Barcelona going under presidential elections, potential candidate Victor Font wants the 49-year-old to unite with Leo Messi.
“It is our intention to build a very strong and competitive project and we are very lucky at Barca that we inherited a style of play that Johan Cruyff instilled throughout the organization, and most of the best professionals who know about this style are also fans and love the club – like Pep Guardiola, Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta, [Carlos] Puyol,” Font told Sky Sports earlier this week.
“They are all legends that love Barcelona but do not work for Barca today – we need to bring them back to ensure we will have a very competitive project.”
A miraculous career.
And no one can doubt Guardiola’s success in Barcelona during his spell from 2008 to 2012. The current City manager evidently won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.
Additionally, Guardiola’s “tiki-taka” methodology brought the best out of Barca players to create an ultimate squad. Footballing legends such as Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and Gerard Pique flourished under the City man.
But sadly, the Man City gaffer denied any chances of him going back to where he started. Also, he will only go back to enjoy the Blaugrana game as a fan.
“My period as Barcelona manager is over. I think once in a lifetime you have to do things,” Guardiola said following City’s win over Sheffield United.
“There are incredible people who can be in charge there, now for example Ronald Koeman. It’s over, I will come back to my city to see my club, to watch the game, it’s done.”
