Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi admitted that advice from his senior teammates led him to a move to Hertha Berlin. Subsequently, Mesut Ozil and Bernd Leno praised the Bundesliga, which in turn aided the 21-year-old to exit Emirates Stadium. Guendouzi consequently took a big step following his season-long move to Germany.

Evidently, the former Lorient youngster did not get enough playing time under the reign of new boss Mikel Arteta.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal in 2018 under Unai Emery. Subsequently, with the help of his bright performance, he aided the Gunners in the European tournament alongside the Premier League.

However, after receiving a lack of game time, Guendouzi now focuses on Hertha Berlin’s domestic campaign.

A strong bond.

The France international though opened up about his good relationship with teammates Ozil and Leno.

“I had a very good relationship with Mesut Ozil and Bernd Leno,” the 21-year-old told Kicker. “Both of them told me a lot of good things about the Bundesliga.”

Moreover, Guendouzi indicated that his long-term future will potentially be away from Arsenal. Although, the youngster is yet to arrive at the conclusion and will wait until the end of the season.

“I played over 80 games there and had a good, intense time there,” he added. “I learned a lot there in terms of sport and grew up there. It was two good years for me.”

The Arsenal midfielder spent most of his youth career at Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Lorient in 2014. And then, he climbed up to the senior team in the span of two years.

Furthermore, Guendouzi’s excellent form in France attracted Arsenal’s attention following his key role in Emery’s list. He managed to feature in over 30 games during his first season at Emirates.

But, somehow, the youngster slipped from his spot under Arteta to fall down the pecking order. Also, reports say that Guendouzi received accusations for foul behavior in the club.
