Tottenham still lack the right balance between attack and defense are no way near his Real Madrid side, insists Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham have been finding the back of the net with much ease this season as they are the side with the joint-most number of goals in the Premier League so far – 15.
As impressive as they are in attack, defensive frailties remain a stumbling block for Spurs and have already cost them points a few times this season.
Most recently in the league, they let slip a 3-0 lead in the final ten minutes to walk away with just a point from a match they could have, had they been more cautious at the back, easily grabbed all three points.
In spite of that, it seems the team are moving in the right direction under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.
Spurs’ proficiency in attack under Mourinho has prompted comparisons between them and the manager’s Real Madrid side of 2011/12.
The star-studded Real Madrid team scored a record 121 goals, let in just 32, and accumulated 100 points en route to winning the La Liga title.
“In Real Madrid, I had amazing, amazing attacking players and we managed to build the team in a certain way,” Mourinho said, squashing Spurs’ comparisons with his Los Blancos side, via Sky Sports.
“I have to be honest and say we have lots of good attacking players here but we need to give stability to the team because the team needs stability in the back to feel solid, confident – to [be able to] have a go.
“So we need to find that balance. Let’s say that it is a team thing, it’s not just about individuals.”
