Lazio frontman aimed a dig at the criticism from Dortmund after contributing to his side’s big win in the Champions League.
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile commented about the criticism from Borussia Dortmund after their win in the Champions League.
Subsequently, Lazio climbed up the table to first place after beating the German side 3-1 at Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday.
Evidently, Immobile opened the account for his side after a dink past Marwin Hitz. And 17 minutes later, Lazio received an own goal from Dortmund to make it two.
Simone Inzaghi’s men controlled the game with the two-goal cushion until later in the second half. Consequently, Dortmund put forth their A-game with Erling Haaland’s 11th goal in nine Champions League outings.
Nevertheless, Lazio confirmed the victory just minutes later after Daniel Akpa Akpro’s cool finish. Yet again, Immobile proved that his presence is a point of difference.
After joining Lazio from Sevilla in 2016, the Italian is now one of the deadliest attackers. Immobile netted 127 goals for Lazio in 182 appearances.
Moreover, he scored 36 goals out of the 127 during the last season in Serie A, winning the European Golden Boot. Although, he did not manage to do the same for his old club Dortmund.
The 30-year-old only scored three times for BVB in the 2014-15 Bundesliga season after moving from Torino. Further, he transferred to Sevilla for €11 million to play in La Liga.
Aim for the critics.
Nonetheless, Immobile received comments about being the biggest flop in Dortmund’s history. Though, after Tuesday’s glamorous show, the striker hit back at the critics.
“Did they say I was Dortmund’s worst signing? Sometimes you have to wait for the players, understand the situations. I arrived at Dortmund at the wrong time, during a generational change,” he told Sky Sports post-match.
“There were some difficulties, but I don’t want to say anything about it. I am very attentive to everything, I know that when there is praise to be taken I do it and I do the same thing with criticism.”
He received questions regarding Lazio’s Champions League campaign. Immobile said: “The next step is to continue like this, continuity made us take the extra step last year.
“When we lost a goal we went back to a normal team. If we go out on the pitch with this desire [we can qualify for the knockout stage]. The group is balanced, there are five more battles and we must give our all.”
