Ralph Hassenhutl firmly believes Timo Werner has all the required characteristics to become a success in the Premier League.
Timo Werner joined Chelsea in the summer in a transfer worth €53 million, but he has failed to justify his hefty price tag so far.
The German marksman is yet to open his goalscoring account in the Premier League despite playing all ninety minutes in his side’s all four league matches so far.
Only one goal, coming in the Carabao Cup, has been scored in Chelsea colors by the player who finished second only to Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga goalscoring charts in 2019/20.
The former RB Leipzig enjoyed his career-best tally last season as he netted 34 times and amassed 13 assists in 45 games across all competitions.
It was Ralph Hasenhuttl who oversaw was at the helm at Leipzig when Werner was signed in 2016.
Now at Southampton, Hasenhuttl is confident that is only a matter of time before his former player starts finding the net often.
“I have worked with a lot of players and he is one of the quickest. He is really hard to defend against,” said Hasenhuttl, via Goal.
“He is getting a more complete striker now and is learning a lot. He is a fantastic signing for Chelsea and he is only happy when he scores, so I hope he is unhappy after the game. They haven’t seen the best of him yet, at Chelsea, in his first games.
“We brought him in from Stuttgart for small money if you want. We knew the game that we played at Leipzig was perfect for him but he also showed development with the ball last year.”
