Kevin De Bruyne explained how talk of Lionel Messi joining Manchester City is no big deal to him.
Chief operating officer Omar Berrada stirred up the transfer talk once again by stating City could make a move for Messi should he really leave Barcelona once his contract expires next summer.
The Citizens were in pole position to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner following his transfer request in the summer. It’s understood he relished the idea of working under former Barca coach Pep Guardiola once more.
But Barcelona denied Messi’s transfer request, meaning he’ll have to wait until June 2021 at the earliest to leave Camp Nou.
But when asked on potentially linking up with someone regarded as one of the greatest players of all-time, De Bruyne told Sky Sports: “I don’t really care to be honest.
“If he comes, it’s a good thing, if he doesn’t there is enough good players at the club who I enjoy playing with, so that is not for now.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who will be out of contract in 2023, revealed talks are yet to begin on an extension.
“I am very happy at the club, I can say now I have not spoken once to the club so I don’t know why people are saying I have already agreed to something,” said De Bruyne.
“I always told everybody I am really happy at the club and I feel comfortable so if the people at the club want to talk to me I am open to that and we will see what happens.
“But at the moment nothing has happened so I just get on with the way it goes.”
