Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels Edinson Cavani, above all his qualities, can be an influential figure for the club’s younger strikers.

Edinson Cavani’s capture was one of the three transfers secured by Manchester United on the deadline day of the summer window.

The veteran forward signed an initial one-year deal said to be worth €220,000-a-week (£200k), with an option for a further 12-month extension, to join Old Trafford on a free transfer.

The Uruguayan refused to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain beyond the 2019/20 season and had been a free agent since July.

During his seven-year stay at Parc des Princes, he amassed 200 goals to overtake Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the leading goalscorer in PSG’s history.

The former PSG, Napoli, Palermo, and Danubio man has enjoyed remarkable form in front of goal throughout his career, evident from his tally of 353 goals in total from 586 appearances.

Cavani will now be expected to do the same at Man United, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no doubts about the qualities of his new acquisition.

“Edinson is an experienced ultimate professional who always gives everything for his team. His goalscoring record for club and country is fantastic and we are delighted to sign a player of his caliber,” Solskjaer told the club’s official website.

“He’ll bring energy, power, leadership, and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he’ll bring goals.

“The opportunity for our young players to learn from one of Europe’s top goalscorers over the last 10 years is fantastic and it will really benefit them going forward.”
