Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has given his seal of approval for the club to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
Aubameyang is licking his lips at the prospect of having Aouar’s service from midfield as Mikel Arteta ups his pursuit of the 22-year-old.
The Gunners have made four signings this summer in Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes, and the permanent signings of Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari.
Now Arteta has set his sights on Aouar, a signing that could take his midfield to the next level.
The Lyon talisman was integral throughout their Champions League run to the semi-finals. He showed his quality in upsets against Juventus and Manchester City.
That encouraged Arsenal to submit an opening offer of £32m for Aouar to test the resolve of Lyon.
That was turned away by Lyon, and president Jean-Michel Aulas is adamant the Gunners are still miles off their valuation.
It’s thought to be around £54m but Arsenal remain confident they can get the deal done with just over a week of the transfer window remaining.
Now Aubameyang has revealed he would be all for Arsenal to sign Aouar, should it materialize.
He told Canal+: “Of course we are in favor [of signing him], I will not hide it! Even if he is at Lyon!”
Elsewhere, Aouar was pushed for answers on his future after Lyon drew 1-1 with Lyon earlier this evening.
But he was keen to remain respectful towards his current club. He said: “I will give you an interview after the match but I will not talk about my future”
