Fernando Torres has picked former team Liverpool over another former team Chelsea to emerge victorious in this season’s title race.

A then-British transfer record was set when Fernando Torres completed a switch from Liverpool to Chelsea in January 2011.

Torres, who also became the sixth most expensive footballer at the time, had shaped his reputation as one of the world’s most lethal finishers prior to his €55 million transfer.

However, as it turned out, the world had already seen the best of the striker as he never quite managed to replicate his previous levels at Stamford Bridge.

After a coupled of failed loan spells, a return to Atletico Madrid, and a stint in Japan, the 36-year old hung up his boots last year.

He failed to win a single Premier League title despite spending eight years in the English top-flight.

Torres now sees a former Chelsea teammate managing the team, but feels he will not be able to guide them to the league title this term.

“I think they are building a fantastic team, not just for this season, but for the future,” he told talkSPORT.

“They are building a very interesting squad but they are young, and you can see Frank [Lampard] can manage a young team as he did last season in a brilliant way.

“They will be close but I don’t know if they can compete with Liverpool and Man City. I think Liverpool will still be stronger than Man City or Chelsea.”
