The likes of Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had no place in Mesut Ozil’s Real Madrid dominated best XI.

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil participated in a Twitter AMA titled ‘#AskMesut’ on Wednesday wherein he made himself available to answer a wide range of questions from his near 25 million followers.

Things took an interesting turn when a fan asked Ozil to name his best starting line-up of players he has played alongside.

Surprisingly, none of his current Arsenal teammates made the cut in the midfielder’s Dream XI. A whopping eight players in the line-up were the ones he played alongside at Real Madrid during his three-year stint at the club from 2010 to 2013. The remaining two players have been the former Germany international’s national teammate.

In an arrangement that portrayed the 4-2-3-1 formation, Ozil’s line up was as follows:

Iker Casillas;
Philipp Lahm – Sergio Ramos – Jerome Boateng – Marcelo;
Xabi Alonso – Santi Cazorla;
Angel Di Maria – Ricardo Kaka – Cristiano Ronaldo;
Karim Benzema;

As a follow-up question, the 31-year old was quizzed about his favorite memory at the Spanish capital. He replied: “The titles we’ve won there as a team.”

Having faced some of the toughest defenders of this generation both at the international and club level, he was asked to name the best defender he has faced so far. “Carles Puyol,” Ozil answered bluntly.
