Dean Henderson has admitted that he could leave Manchester United if he is unable to get regular minutes for the first team this season.

Henderson hints he would push for another loan move if he won’t get ample game time next season.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper was deservedly called up for England’s Nations League games in early September.

Henderson impressed the last two seasons on loan with Sheffield United. He was a regular with the Blades and even made a stake as one of the most consistent shot-stoppers in the Premier League.

His performances saw him linked with a move to Chelsea and a permanent move to Sheffield United. Regardless, he went on to sign a new long-term contract with the Red Devils.

Considering his role as a first team player the past two seasons, Henderson says he’s not ready to settle as a back-up option at United.

The 23-year-old would have to compete with David De Gea for that spot but hints at an exit if he can’t make the position his own.

“Look, 100%, the aim is for me to play football next season,” Henderson said as quoted by ESPN.

“I don’t think I want to be not playing after last season, coming off a good season with momentum.

“It wouldn’t be clever for me to sit around and not play football, I don’t think it would help any parties at all.”

Henderson also paid respect to current United no 1 David de Gea but once again echoed his need for regular football.

“You can get many things from training and obviously learn off someone like David and the other goalkeepers and coaches,” Henderson added. “But I don’t think there’s any substitute for game-time.

“I’m not going to improve just sitting on the bench. I need that game time.”

United begin their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on September 19. With the transfer window still on till October 5, Henderson can still push for a move elsewhere if he sees himself as second fiddle.
