Kai Havertz will have to wait a bit longer to become a new player of Chelsea after a transfer announcement faced another delay.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in a stunning club-record deal worth around £90million.

The 21-year-old playmaker should become the Blues’ marquee summer signing once he completes his medical.

However, according to the Express Sport, there’s been a postponement of a transfer announcement.

Although Chelsea and Leverkusen have agreed on a transfer fee, there are two theories for why Havertz’s deal is facing a new delay.

According to the first, the clubs have yet to find an agreement over add-ons included in the arrangement.

The other says the Bundesliga giants are looking to recruit the German’s replacement before giving the transfer the go-ahead.

Havertz’s move to Stamford Bridge will bring Chelsea’s spending fee beyond the £230million mark.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Ben Chilwell have so far cost the Premier League side approximately £140million.

Frank Lampard is keen to assemble a squad able to cope with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United in the next season’s title race.

Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have also arrived in west London as part of the Englishman’s efforts to land the coveted prize.
