The Lionel Messi saga remains in full swing and the latest rumors say the Barca star has agreed a bumper contract worth €700m with Man City.
With each passing day, the Lionel Messi story has taken a new twist to go with.
Barcelona were left in confusion when their captain declared his intentions to leave the club last Tuesday.
Messi has reportedly grown tired of the club’s failings and is ready to end his 16-year association with the Catalan giants.
Barca so far have no intention to let the Argentine leave for free and insist his €700m release clause must be met. La Liga are in agreement with the Catalan side on the matter.
Regardless, a Messi-Guardiola reunion could be on the cards with Manchester City mooted as favourites to land the 33-year-old.
The Citizens continue to convince Barca to let their best player leave on a free transfer. Should that bid go on to be successful, City are already in pole position to sign La Pulga. At least that’s what the latest reports say.
Duncan Castles reports in his column for the Daily Record that City and Messi have agreed financial terms worth a massive €700m. Coincidentally, the fee is the same amount as his release clause.
The offer would see Messi spend three years in the Premier League with City and the remaining two years with New York City FC. Both sides are owned by City Football Group (CFG).
As if that’s not enough, it’s also reported that Messi could be offered an equity stake in CFG as part of his compensation package.
The deal would also put Messi as the highest paid footballer on the planet by a far margin.
Once again, all of that depends on if Barcelona would let him go on the ‘cheap’.
Messi didn’t show up for the club’s recent training session; a further indication of his desire to leave the club.
