Wayne Rooney believes ‘natural goalscorer’ Mason Greenwood is a better candidate for England over Tammy Abraham and Marcus Rashford.
Mason Greenwood impressed for Manchester United in the 2019/20 campaign. The Red Devils youth academy graduate scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.
His impressive goal haul has earned him many admirers, one of whom is England and Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney.
Rooney shared that he has been impressed by Greenwood and would have questioned is fast progression to the Three Lions squad. However, such has been the youngster’s form for his club that the national team call-up is deserved.
“If you said to me three or four months ago, I would have said we know he is a high-quality player who is having a good season but maybe it is a bit early to put him up to the senior team,” Metro quoted the England all-time top scorer.
“But the reality is that his performances and goalscoring has been so good that he has earned the right.”
The Derby player-coach also compared Greenwood with Tammy Abraham and Marcus Rashford. Rooney was off the opinion that Greenwood is a natural goalscorer, something both Abraham and Rashford are not.
“For me, Marcus Rashford is not such a natural scorer and nor is Tammy Abraham. But Greenwood can be that player,” the Everton and Manchester United legend shared.
