Rivaldo: 'I'm confident that Silva will do a great job there'

Thiago Silva ended his eight-year association with Paris Saint-Germain and is edging towards a move to Premier League outfit Chelsea.

Frank Lampard will have a level shoulder in his backline with the addition of Thiago Silva. The veteran defender got in the free agency after his Paris Saint-Germain contract finished.

Silva arrives on a two-year deal that will see him play in West London beyond 38 years of age. Brazil legend, Rivaldo, only has words of praise for his compatriot.

Rivaldo anticipates great experiences for Silva at the Stamford Bridge. He pointed towards his years at the highest level and still hold his own against the best in the business.

“At 35, Thiago Silva will sign for two seasons with Chelsea and I’m confident that he will do a great job there, as he is a great center back with excellent positioning and vast experience of world football,” Rivaldo told Betfair.

“I think he still comes with plenty to offer. I’d back him to produce a good football in the Premier League and should be a commanding voice in Frank Lampard’s otherwise young squad.

“Nowadays, many players extend their careers until their late-thirties and Silva is a good example of that, as I was in my time. If you keep yourself in good physical condition you can easily play at the highest level until 36- 37 years old.”

Silva is not the only defensive addition linked with Chelsea. The Blues are hot on Ben Chilwell’s trail and can also add Malang Sarr to their ranks. While Kai Havertz is set to reinforce their attacking line.
