Official: AS Roma sign Pedro Rodriguez on a free transfer

A fortnight after leaving ending his five-year association with Chelsea, Pedro Rodriguez has signed for Italian giants AS Roma.

Barcelona, London and now Rome. Pedro Rodriguez is officially an AS Roma player. 

Following Chelsea’s ousting from Champions League, Pedro Rodriguez’s tenure with the West London club came to an end. La Masia youth academy graduate finished his contract and was free to negotiate with prospective employers.

AS Roma were the front runners to secure his services and it is official now. The Romans announced that Pedro has signed with them on a three-year contract. 

An elated Pedro shared that he is looking forward to this next phase of his career. The 33-year-old thanked the fans for the welcome and shared his ambition to live up to their expectations.

“I’m delighted to be here at Roma,” Pedro told the club’s official website. “I’m excited for this challenge and to compete to achieve our targets over the coming seasons.

“I want to thank the fans for the welcome they’ve given me. I hope to make them happy.”

Roma CEO, Guido Fienga, was full of praise for Pedro and hailed his addition at the club. 

“It’s a privilege for us to be able to welcome a player of Pedro’s quality to the Roma family. 

“The hope we have, for both him and for us, is that he can continue to add to his extraordinary list of achievements with AS Roma.”

After making over 40 appearances in each of first four seasons at Stamford Bridge, Pedro saw his game time reduced under Frank Lampard. He leaves the club after winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.
