PSG are reportedly considering whether to continue with Thomas Tuchel as part of a ‘restructuring’ process following their Champions League final defeat.

Tuchel has enjoyed a decent two-year spell with Paris Saint-Germain, winning 80 of his 104 games and collecting six major honors. Reaching the Champions League final, however, was his biggest accomplishment.

PSG, who had never reached the final before, signed Tuchel as Unai Emery’s replacement in 2018 for this very purpose. The German then delivered at the second time of asking, but he lost in the final itself on Sunday.

Bayern Munich emerged victorious instead in Lisbon as Kingsley Coman’s header just before the hour-mark sealed a slender 1-0 win, earning the German giants a sixth European title.

It marked a bittersweet ending for PSG, who had won a domestic quadruple recently. But success in France is so common now, it means little to Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The club president has long harbored a desire to bring the Champions League trophy to Paris and has invested millions to do so.

According to Diario AS, Al-Khelaifi’s wish to succeed in Europe could result in Tuchel’s dismissal. The German’s decisions in the final itself displeased the club board, particularly when he brought on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the second-half over €60m signing Mauro Icardi and Pablo Sarabia.

The board, who have never held too much faith in Tuchel, perceived the PSG coach’s actions in Portugal as proof he cannot react well in decisive moments. Therefore, they are allegedly considering changing managers.

Although Al-Khelaifi and the board would have very little time to replace Tuchel ahead of the club’s Ligue 1 opener against Lens on Saturday, as the German is contracted until next year and finding suitable replacements won’t be easy in such a short space of time.
