Mikel Arteta is quite optimistic that Arsenal can return to being a force to reckon with in the Premier League in the coming years.
Arsenal reached a new low in the 2019/20 Premier League as they finished 8th in the league table, their worst position since 1995.
Their European campaign also was nothing less than a disappointment as they crashed out of the Europa League on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate Round of 32 defeat to Olympiacos.
But last season was not entirely a non-event for them as they won their 14th FA Cup trophy, beating local rivals Chelsea 2-1 in the final.
The Gunners’ success was a result of the change brought in the team’s playing style, morale, and mentality under Mikel Arteta.
Appointed as the head coach in December, the former midfielder inherited a side in a huge crisis but did a great job in transforming the mood around the club.
“We have to go to the next level, we have to apply ourselves better, we have to improve in a lot of areas and we have to dominate many other aspects of the game that at the moment we cannot control,” Arteta told the club’s official website, discussing the objectives going into the 2020/21 season.
“What I am very positive and very passionate and encouraged about is what we can do in the future and if we make the right decisions, I am super confident that we can bring the club back to the top.”
