Cavani has revealed he is in talks with Benfica but is yet to agree a contract or anything else with the Portuguese giants.
Cavani is expected to make a decision on his future in the coming weeks. It is looking likely he could join Benfica.
The 33-year-old is a free agent after running down his contract with PSG in June.
Over the past few weeks, lots of sides have been linked with Cavani.
Leeds owner caused a stir when he revealed he was interested in the Uruguayan forward. La Liga side Atletico Madrid and David Beckham’s Inter Miami are some other sides linked with the striker.
But none of them have gone close as Benfica, according to reports. Just last month, some Portuguese outlets claimed Cavani had already agreed a two-year deal with the Aguias outfit.
The club were quick to deny those reports on their website. However, latest comments from the ex-PSG star hints a likely move could happen soon.
“There were meetings with Benfica and other clubs. But nothing is yet defined, so I cannot say that there is a closed agreement. When everything is confirmed with a team, they will know it,” Cavani said via Goal when asked about his future.
Aked further on what attracted him to Benfica, Cavani replied they were “a great team” that regularly competes in European competitions. He also added that many of his compatriots have seen successful spells with the club.
“How can it not be a team that attracts me? And if there is the possibility for me to play there I will be delighted with life,” he added.
Since leaving PSG, Cavani has spent most of his time in his hometown working on his fitness.
