Hansi Flick is delighted with Bayern Munich’s dominant performance against Barcelona but warns his side no to get carried away.
FC Barcelona made history in last night’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich, only not in the way they would have liked.
The 8-2 thrashing by Bayern was Barca’s biggest defeat since their 11-1 loss to Sevilla way back in 1940. It was also the biggest defeat ever by any team in a single Champions League knockout stage game.
Thomas Muller‘s goal just inside the first five minutes of the match marked the start of misery for the Catalans. Ivan Perisic doubled the lead with a brilliant strike before. Muller then added another before Serge Gnabry made sure his side go into the half-time break with a very comfortable 4-1 lead.
Philippe Coutinho landed the final blow on his parent club as he scored twice within four minutes while also setting up one for Robert Lewandowski.
“Of course we are delighted with the way in which we have achieved this 8:2,” Hansi Flick told reporters, via Goal.
“But we all know – and you could feel it in the cabin – that we still have a lot to do. We know how fast that can happen in football. It is important to look ahead to the next game.
“Our goal was to get to the semi-finals. We did that impressively. We are all very happy about that. But we also know that it is still a tough job to be where we want to be in the end.”
