Consistency and defensive discipline are the two aspects Chelsea must improve on in the next season, notes Cesar Azpilicueta.
Frank Lampard ended up having mixed emotions following the conclusion of his debut managerial season at Chelsea.
Fininshing fourth in the Premier League was Chelsea’s highlight of the season as they finished second-best to Arsenal in the FA Cup final before crashing out of the Champions League after a 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich.
On the other hand, Lampard’s proactive management saw several academy players turn into stars. The playing style also upgraded under their former skipper, with the team showing attack-minded and risk-taking approach.
In an interview with the official club website, Cesar Azpilicueta does not refuse that his side had a subpar season as he suggests a few improvements ahead of the pre-season.
“When you look at the end of our season, they were not the results we wanted to get. We missed the chance to lift a trophy and obviously, we had a bad result against Bayern as well,” he said.
“We had our good moments during the season and our difficult moments as well but we couldn’t find that consistency to have better results.
“It has been very difficult for us to find defensive solidity but once we do that, I can only see the team growing and improving moving forward.”
