Barcelona moved up to fourth place in La Liga after a brilliant win against the Rojiblancos.
Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid 4-2 in their La Liga clash on Sunday. The Catalans clinched another crucial victory while Atletico suffered their sixth defeat of the season at Camp Nou.
Back into the top four!
It took Atletico Madrid only eight minutes to open the scoring against the Catalans. However, Barca replied to Yannick Carrasco’s opener with a quick equalizer from Jordi Alba only two minutes later.
The Catalans continued their attacks and took the lead through Gavi in the 21st minute. Atletico pushed to level the game once again before the interval, but their plans backfired. Following an assist from Ferran Torres, Ronald Araujo smashed the ball past Jan Oblak from six yards out.
Having doubled their lead just before the half-time whistle, Barca started the second half with more control over the possession. Following another brilliant run from the left flank, Dani Alves scored his side’s fourth goal with a precise low shot.
Luis Suarez revived Atletico’s hope by making it 4-2, two minutes before the hour-mark. Ten minutes later, Dani Alves received a red card after a nasty tackle, causing even more problems for Barca.
However, Xavi’s side maintained their defensive integrity and managed to end the game with a 4-2 win. Barca leapfrogged Atletico to go fourth in La Liga while Atletico’s winless run at Camp Nou extended to 16 La Liga games.
