Tottenham were not able to turn the tie around as Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup final.

Chelsea defeated Tottenham 1-0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal tie. The Blues won 3-0 on aggregate as they once again defeated Antonio Conte’s side.

Chelsea are in the EFL Cup final!

Chelsea came into the game on the back of a 2-0 win in the first leg. However, they started attacking the hosts as soon as the game started.

Following a corner from Mason Mount, Tottenham keeper Pierluigi Gollini rushed too early to claim the ball. The mistake was enough for Antonio Rudiger to break the deadlock with a header in the 18th minute.

Spurs soon started their efforts to get the equalizer. They came close when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after a Rudiger tackle on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. However, upon reviewing by VAR, the referee changed his mind and overruled the penalty call.

Tottenham restarted their attacks in the second half. However, another VAR call prevented them from taking a penalty just before the hour-mark. The technology frustrated Conte’s side once again only minutes later as the referee disallowed Harry Kane’s equalizer.

Chelsea took control again in the latter stages of the game. However, a medical emergency in the crowd stopped the game for eight minutes. It was enough to cause a drop in the game’s pace, obviously in Chelsea’s favour.

With a 3-0 win on aggregate, the Blues reached the final of the Carabao Cup. They will meet the winner of the tie between Arsenal and Manchester United. Before that, Thomas Tuchel’s side must return to the Premier League to face Manchester City on Saturday. On the other hand, Tottenham will host Arsenal in the north London derby a day later.
