Amid reports of interest from as many as five clubs, Raheem Sterling has opened the door for a possible exit from Manchester City.
Raheem Sterling would be open to leaving Manchester City for more game time and revealed he would ‘love to play abroad’.
The England international has fallen out of favor under Pep Guardiola. The Citizens boss has only started him four times in all competitions this season, including twice in the Premier League. Therefore, as his fortunes fail to improve, speculation over his future has increased.
Reports have linked Sterling with former club Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid ahead of the January transfer window.
“If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time, I would be open to it. As I said, football is the most important thing to me,” Sterling told the Financial Times at the newspaper’s Business of Sport US summit in New York.
After the winger suggested he would prefer a move to France or Spain, he added: “Challenges that I have set myself from a young age and dreams as well. As an English player, all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought, you know, maybe one day I’d love to play abroad. See how I would come up against that challenge.”
Sterling will hope to get another chance in Guardiola’s line-up on Saturday as Manchester City welcome Burnley to the Eithad in a Premier League match.
