The Magpies enjoyed a dream start in their first match of the new era, but it was Spurs who came out on top at the end of 90 minutes.

Tottenham emerged 3-2 victorious against Newcastle United in what was a strange, eventful Premier League game at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

The home fans were sent into ecstasy when Callum Wilson put Newcastle on the front foot with a powerful diving header in the 2nd minute. It marked a perfect start to the club’s new era – until it didn’t.

The joy of the new owners did not last long as Tottenham responded well, with Tanguy Ndombele leveling the scoreline with a stunning strike into the top right corner.

Spurs took the lead seven minutes later through Harry Kane, who looped the ball over Karl Darlow. Kane’s goal was initially ruled offside, but VAR intervened and he was able to celebrate his first Premier League goal of the season.

A medical emergency in the stands saw the play halt after 40 minutes and both sets of players were taken off the pitch.

Son Heung-min doubled his side’s advantage moments after the restart. It was a beautiful goal by the visitors as Lucas Moura found Kane on the edge of the box after some brilliant footwork, Kane slid the ball across the six-yard box, and Son simply poked it into the unguarded net.

Eric Dier put the ball into his own net late in the game, offering the opposition hopes of a possible comeback. However, Steve Bruce’s men were unable to find an equalizer.
