Lautaro Martinez has revealed his Serie A target after grabbing a hat-trick in Inter’s 6-2 thrashing of Crotone on Sunday afternoon.
Lautaro Martinez started the year on a good note as the forward hit a perfect hat-trick as Inter defeated Crotone 6-2 at San Siro on Sunday afternoon.
Lukaku also impressed in the match as Inter moved top of Serie A barring the result from AC Milan’s game with Benevento later on Sunday.
The scores were level at the break after Martinez canceled out Niccolo Zanellato’s opener and was also ‘involved’ for a Luca Marrone own goal. Vladimir Golemic’s equalizing penalty ensured the first half ended 2-2.
It was a different story after the break. Martinez completed his treble following the interval, while Lukaku also got in on the score-sheet for his 12th of the season.
Achraf Hakimi swept in the sixth late on to seal another convincing win for Antonio Conte’s men.
The only dampener to the result was the injury suffered by Lukaku late on.
Speaking after the game, Martinez revealed he was happy to grab the goals and added that Inter do have a Serie A triumph in their hearts.
“We faced a well-trained team, we’ve been working a lot on the defensive phase and we are very happy for today’s win,” Lautaro said as quoted by Football-Italia.
“I missed this feeling, it’s nice to score goals, but it is also important to work for the team. I dedicate these goals to my family, my girlfriend Augustina and our daughter who will born soon,” he added.
“I am happy when Inter win, but I am even happier when we win thanks to my goals.”
Speaking on the title race, Martinez added: “The Serie A title is one of our targets, we are working to stay up there. We hope we’ll be in first place until next week,”
Inter are currently the most in-form Serie Aside with eight straight successive wins. The last time they did this dates back to December 2008.
Regardless of whatever result from AC Milan, Inter are in the title discussions as Martinez said. No better way to start the new calendar year than with a big win on home turf.
