Arsenal march past Leeds United to close the gap with Chelsea in the third place.
Arsenal defeated Leeds United with a 4-1 result in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Gunners got their third consecutive game with another brilliant performance from their youngsters.
Martinelli steals the show!
Arsenal came into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday. The Gunners showed their great confidence right from the beginning, holding on to the possession with precise passes.
Gabriel Martinelli scored the opener in the 16th minute before doubling the lead for Arsenal 12 minutes later. However, the Gunners still displayed great hunger to extend their lead in the first half.
Following an unstoppable run from the left side of the box, Saka made it 3-2 for Arsenal with a deflected shot. The goal came only three minutes before the interval, ending a brilliant first half for the Gunners.
Not much changed in the second half. Arsenal kept dominating the game, but this time Leeds managed to make a few chances. Following a careless tackle by Ben White, the referee awarded Leeds a penalty. Raphinha converted the penalty with a strike to the top-left corner to make it 3-1 in the 75th minute.
After the penalty, Leeds tried to mount a comeback. However, Emil Smith Rowe ended their dreams by scoring Arsenal’s fourth six minutes before the final whistle.
Arsenal remain in fourth place on the league table. However, the victory closes the gap between them and Chelsea to five points. The Gunners will face Sunderland in a Carabao Cup game on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Leeds suffered their third consecutive defeat as they slipped to 16th place. After meeting Man City and Arsenal, the Peacocks will face Liverpool in their next game on December 26.
