Mikel Arteta’s men start their new league campaign with a win at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the first Premier League game of the 2022-23 season.

Unlike last season, when the Gunners stayed goalless until their fourth league match, Arteta’s men broke the deadlock in the first half of their campaign opener against the Eagles.

Gabriel Martinelli, who had missed a golden chance early on, opened the scoring for the guests in the 20th minute.

Following a header from Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Brazilian star rushed to the far post to nod the ball home.

The Gunners remained in charge of the possession for most of the first half. However, Palace managed to make a few unsuccessful attempts to score the equalizer.

Odsonne Edouard found an opportunity to smash the ball behind Aaron Ramsdale from the middle of the box. But his header went right into the Arsenal keeper’s gloves.

The hosts made a few more chances at the beginning of the second period. However, Arsenal soon managed to retake control over the ball.

Palace pushed harder to get back into the game in the final ten minutes. But that only provided Arsenal with more space behind the hosts’ backline.

Following a run from Bukayo Saka down the right flank, the England international sent a powerful pass across goal that was turned into the net by Palace’s Marc Guehi.

The Gunners must prepare to lock horns with Leicester City in their next league game on Saturday.
