Let’s take a look at the Player Ratings from the Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

A second half Gabriel Jesus strike ensured Manchester City a crucial 1-0 victory at Chelsea and a spot of revenge for last season’s Champions League final defeat.

While still early days in the Premier League title race, Chelsea and Manchester City met knowing the result from Saturday’s encounter could make a significant impact in terms of who sets the early pace.

Predictably, the first half afforded few chances on goal and both teams entered the break goalless. Manchester City dominated possession but wasted their best effort after Gabriel Jesus sliced a Phil Foden set-up wide of the post from inside the box. It was a costly miss, but things soon changed.

City wasted no time pressing the Chelsea defense early in the second half through Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish before Jesus handed the visitors a long overdue lead at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Cancelo’s deflected strike fell into the path of Jesus in the 53rd-minute of the match. The Brazilian didn’t need asking twice. He twisted and cooly fired the ball into the bottom-left corner, wrong-footing Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy with a slight deflection in the process.

Pep Guardiola’s side then held on to claim a critical three points over their Premier League title rivals. The result moves them into second place on 13 points in the league table, and ahead of third-placed Chelsea due to a superior goal difference.

James injury setback

Reece James started at right wing-back for the heavyweight cash at Stamford Bridge but lasted less than half-an-hour with an ankle problem.

A collision with Jack Grealish saw Tuchel eventually replace James with Thiago Silva. Cesar Azpilicueta took over on the flank, while the Brazilian slotted into central defense.
